Earlier this year, Ear Drummer affiliate Shotta Spence dropped off his wavy Mike WiLL Made-It, Myles Harris and Chopsquad DJ-produced ”Young & Humble” single. Now, the Vietnamese-American, New Jersey-raised musician returns with a fresh single and visual titled “Don’t Fold.” The new directed by Max video features scenes of Shotta partaking in #StopAsianHate protests from earlier this year as he delivers his lyrics about staying solid over production courtesy of longtime friend, Kakuyon:
Militant I’m militant, for ya love I’m killin shit/ They gon call me villainous, I’ll pay that price/ In a sense I’m innocent, ‘cause to my kin I’m heaven-sent/ So I don’t wish no I don’t wish they stayed on my side
Long as we got us I don’t need no one else/ Don’t need no one else and no one in this world should change how you look at us/ Don’t wanna end up like the rest of them, rest of them, losing faith finding they self wondering what they coulda been

We saw a good amount of music from Spence in 2020, including singles like “$howers” alongside 732Cash, “Starship,” “Bag on a Bag,” and “Arriba.” In 2019, he released his 1012 project. Which included eight tracks and a feature from Big Blake. He made his rap career debut in 2016 with his Upfall project, which included his fan-favorite cut “Nothing 2 Lose.”
Shotta made sure to give a bit of insight about his intentions behind the new “Don’t Fold” video, which is centered around unity. “The song is about keeping the loyalty and unity strong between my family and friends,” he shares via press release. “In the video you can see the people I grew up with in Franklin Township NJ and the synergy that Asians, Black people and all cultures have there. I feel like people need to see that diverse communities do exist and people of different backgrounds can build things of value together.”
